Insomnia and stress are closely linked to each other. Stress causes insomnia as your mind is in overdrive and at the end of a busy demanding day at work it's very hard to switch off.
Transient insomnia is experienced by most people at some time throughout their lives and can be caused by stresses such as worrying about a job interview or an illness in the family.
As you lay awake in bed your mind is going over the meeting you had at work or any other problem that's keeping you from sleeping. Insomnia can cause more stress as you are tired during the day from lack of sleep which in turn makes you more stressed.
Drinking lots of coffee to overcome daytime drowsiness caused by insomnia will only make matters worse. Caffeine can make you more anxious and increase your heart rate especially if you drink lots of strong black coffee. Caffeine blocks the absorption of a calming chemical called adenosine which is produced during activities such as exercise, and instead promotes the production of adrenaline which speeds the body up.
Reduce the amount of caffeine in your diet and try replacing coffee with herbal tea or just change to decaffeinated. There is very little difference in taste but it won't keep you awake at night. Some people are more sensitive to caffeine than others
Exercise is not only a great way to keep fit but it also helps you to manage stress. Exercise releases endorphins in the body which are natural pain killers and also help relieve stress. This works very well with mild depression and anxiety. You don't have to join a gym, but just try brisk walking for 30 minutes each day. This can fit in with most people's lives and you will notice a difference in a very short time.
You will find that you will be able to sleep better at night and your insomnia and stress levels will be greatly reduced.
If you are very stressed try meditation or join a yoga class. Set aside some time for yourself in the day no matter how demanding your work schedule is. It's very important for your mental and physical wellbeing to spend some time just relaxing and allowing your mind to switch off. You will feel refreshed and less likely to suffer from insomnia at night.
Aromatherapy is great way to reduce insomnia and stress. Try placing a few drops of jasmine or lavender oil into an aromatherapy burner and place it in your bedroom. The soothing and relaxing fragrance will help you to sleep. Alternatively try adding a few drops of these oils into a warm bath just before you go to bed.
The warm bath will relax you and the aromatherapy oils will help you to de stress.
In some cases the insomnia and stress experienced by the sufferer is so great that professional counselling is needed. This could be due to a traumatic event such as the sudden death of a close member of family, bankruptcy or redundancy

How to Improve Your Speed in Math
by Jimmy Cox
Hard though this may be to believe, if you use the following method for addition, you will greatly increase your speed.
Add With Complements
The basic rule for the new technique is this: To "add" over ten, subtract the complement of the larger digit from the smaller digit - and record a ten.
First we need to learn what complements are. Then we will take up how to record tens. Both are easy.
What is a complement? A complement is simply the digit that, added to the digit you have, adds up to ten. You might say that a complement is that digit needed (in addition to the one you have) to complete a ten.
For example: The complement of 9 is 1, because 9 + 1 is ten. The complementt of 8 is 2, because 8 + 2 is ten. The complement of 7 is 3, and the complement of 6 is 4, because 7 + 3 is ten and 6 + 4 is ten. Even in your sleep you would answer that the complement of 5 is 5.
Those are all the complements you ever have to remember in adding the longest column of figures. There are only five of them: five pairs, you will note, that add up to ten in the table of possible combinations.
Before learning how to add with complements, make doubly sure that you have the idea by looking at the following digits and giving their complements. Try to "read" the complement of each. 7 6 9 5 8
The way you add with complements takes a bit of getting used to. But it is one of the most fascinating and fruitful approaches known to short-cut arithmetic. You "add" two digits that total more than ten by subtracting the complement of the larger digit from the smaller digit and recording a ten.
In order to add 6 + 7, you subtract the complement of 7(3) from 6, and record a ten. 6 - 3 gives 3. The recorded ten makes it 13.
Or to add 8 + 4, you subtract the complement of 8 (2) from 4 and record a ten. 4 - 2 gives 2. The recorded ten makes it 12. It is useful to subtract the complement of the larger digit rather than the complement of the smaller. In this way you cut in half the number of complements you have to remember at this stage - though the other half of the complements are really only the same pairs of digits that add up to ten turned around. Just as 2 is the complement of 8, so is 8 the complement of 2.
Try it yourself, before going any further. Add 7 9 by subtracting the complement of the larger digit from the smaller digit. The complement of The complement of 9 is - 7 - is -Remember to record a ten. So the answer is 16. I hope that is what you arrived at through the new method, even the first time. If not, then it hasn't become clear yet. Another reading of the article is indicated.
Now add 3 + 8. Would you subtract the complement of 8 from 3? What is the complement of 8? Don't forget to record a ten.
Strange and complex as this system undoubtedly seems at the moment, it is really far faster. This is because you are working with only the easier half of the forty-five digit combinations, the half that add up to less than ten.
Each time you use it, the system will become a little easier and more natural.
Add 6 + 5. The complement of 6 is - 5 minus - is - Record a ten.
As you incorporate this method into your life you will see what a difference it makes.

Several Causes of Sleep Apnea
What is the cause of sleep apnea? It occurs when a person experiences an interruption in breathing during sleep. Several things can be considered a cause though. Some people may experience a relaxing of the tongue and throat muscles during sleep, which will partially block the airway opening. The muscles at the base of the tongue and the uvula relax and cause the airway to become blocked. When the airway is blocked a persons breathing becomes difficult and noisy and in the case of sleep apnea can stop altogether. The uvula is the small fleshy piece of tissue hanging from the back of a person’s throat.
Obesity is also a sleep apnea cause. Overweight people can have excess amount of tissue in their airway thus causing it to narrow. The problem then is that the person continues to try to breathe normally but air cannot flow in or out of their nose or mouth. Since the person is sleeping, they do not know that they are now snoring heavily or experiencing periods of no breathing. The person will also frequently wake and frequently move from a deep sleep to a light sleep. Consumption of alcohol and sleeping pills will increase the possible frequency and the length of time of the breathing pauses for a person with sleep apnea.
When suffering from sleep apnea a person cannot breathe in oxygen and thus they are also unable to exhale carbon dioxide which then results in the individual receiving low levels of oxygen and higher levels of carbon dioxide in the their blood. These two events alert the brain to resume breathing and cause an arousal. The arousal is a signal that the brain sends to the upper airway muscles to open the airway. This opening of the airway causes the person to gasp or snort aloud. These frequent periods of waking really prevent the sleep apnea sufferer from getting a restful night sleep.
It is not clearly known whether sleep apnea causes other conditions such as high blood pressure but a study concluded that up to fifty percent of sufferers do have high blood pressure. However, these results certainly lead to the idea that this sleep disorder may cause high blood pressure. People with this type of sleep disorder quite often feel very sleepy during the day due to their interrupted sleep.
Sleep apnea can cause depression, irritability, sexual problems, learning and memory issues as well. A sufferers spouse is usually the first person that notices a problem. They may notice loud snoring and a struggle to breathe during the night.
Co-workers who notice the person falling asleep at unusual times during the day may also identify a person with a sleep disorder. The most important factor is if someone close to you, suspects that you may have a sleep disorder do not ignore them. Have a doctor conduct some tests; you may need to go to a sleep clinic to have your sleeping patterns monitored. Trust your doctor, they can provide the best sleep apnea cause.

Snoring Can Be Misleading
by Shareen Aguilar
Recognize that noisy grumbling sound coming from your parents' room every night as you try to get some sleep? Yes, that is snoring and it is one of the most bothersome health problems that doesn't seem to have obvious side effects to people who has it. At least, not yet.
Snoring is often regarded as a harmless condition while the victim sleeps. But, like many others haven't thought about, snoring can lead to a serious health and breathing problem. This is not to say though that once a person starts to snore, serious snoring problem is the direct diagnosis. There are many factors as to how and why a person starts to snore. But there are also many minimal factors that cause snoring to take effect. Usually, when a person is congested along his air passage such as the throat and nose, a snoring sound is produced.
Almost all people experience snoring but this doesn't necessarily mean that they are deemed unhealthy or could have serious sleeping problems right away. But on the average, when a person starts to snore and continues to do it every time he sleeps, there is something wrong with his sleeping habits. But before you panic, determine first if there it is a serious case of snoring problem or not. Ask your partner if sleep disruption at night is often experienced. If this is caused by sleep apnea though, a case of snoring problem which involves breathing interruptions, the person who has this wouldn't remember any sleep disruption during his sleep. But you need to keep an eye on your partner at night for this case.
You can try early remedies and medications to prevent snoring. There are easy methods how to prevent snoring which, so far, is the type of ideal snoring remedy preferred over painful surgery. Keep in mind that if snoring problem persists, it could slowly turn your healthy lifestyle around. See a medical specialist about the most convenient and definite way to cure snoring to help the person you love.
